West End Project
Work has begun on the our Grade II* Listed building. There are three parts to our plans
Part 1: (has begun)
We have no running water or kitchen facilities in St James. Part 1 of the project would install a fully fitted kitchen including double sink and single drainer, six ring hob and electric oven, units, hand-wash sink. We would remove our current composting toilet and replace it with two unisex toilets (one disability accessible and one with baby changing facilities). This also includes adding a water supply and drainage for the building.
We would also create a small mixed use office to provide both a confidential space for one-to-one meetings and a base for staff/volunteers.
We have received grants from the following trusts (click the logo for more info):
Depending on the final costs of part 1 we would like to do as much of the following as possible.
With the addition of a disabled toilet we want to be able to ensure our building is also accessible. This part of the project would create access ramps, one to the main entrance and the other to the emergency exit, together with tarmac and landscaping to marry into the existing features. We would also add sandstone steps to the main entrance and refurbish the existing porch and main entrance. Our current steel clad door would become a hardwood security door, an altogether more attractive looking entrance!
Our church could look a lot better both inside and out. We hope to be able to add the following features to St James to make Sundays more comfortable and to improve our welcome.
Wildflower planting in the graveyard.
Creation of a stage.
Our architect indicates the work should last about 12 weeks.
We are very excited to anouce work has begun on part 1 and part 2a.
